This is the bunker scene from Der Untergang (Downfall), the clip the internet has been re-captioning for nearly twenty years to mock everyone from football coaches to tech CEOs. The film itself is a serious work about the last days of a regime that murdered six million Jews and millions of others. Nothing here makes light of that. The Holocaust was real, its survivors and the memory of the dead deserve our respect, and the hatred behind it has not gone anywhere.
The joke in this meme has never been the Nazis. The joke is a tyrant melting down over something small, and in this version the something small is Lauren Boebert losing a district that was handed to her on a plate. If the format isn’t for you, I understand, skip it. If it is, enjoy, and keep your eyes on the real fools.
