Remembering Leland Dirks
“If you can, read the Declaration of Independence first. It shows us at our finest. My time grows short. Think kindly of us, and if you pray, pray for our forgiveness. Once, we had it all. If only we had shared. If only we were kinder. If only we were as noble as we thought we were.”
~ Leland Dirks
One and a Half Years
On August 15, 2025, it will be one and a half years since Leland Dirks left us. One and a half years of missing his prescient wisdom, extraordinary kindness, and the friendship of a most remarkable man.
Leland was a gifted writer, brilliant photographer, and astute observer of the human condition. He brought beauty to everything he did, and he gave freely of his prodigious talents without ever expecting anything in return. If you praised him, he would simply smile and reply:
“’tis a pleasure to share.”
or
“I live to serve.”
And serve he did.
Service, Kindness, and Truth
As a constituent of “Chucklehead” @RepBoebert, he devoted hours compiling her “report cards” — painstakingly documenting her lack of achievements and exposing her unfitness for Congress. His work surely helped contribute to her retreat from Colorado’s 3rd District.
But more than his sharp eye for accountability, I will always remember how he treated people.
Every follower mattered. Every voice was heard. Leland took the time to lift spirits, brighten days, and offer help, hope, and joy. To be among the thousands who knew him was the privilege of a lifetime.
He was one of the few who was as kind and noble as we all ought to be.
His Words Live On
“Stay healthy out there, stay grateful, stay kind.”
~ Leland Dirks
That was his parting reminder to us. A simple call to live with gratitude, with health, with kindness.
Today, and always, we honor him by carrying forward those words.
