Democratic leaders love to talk about winning rural America.
They talk about values.
They talk about meeting the voters where they are.
They talk about messaging.
They talk about long-term strategy.
What they don’t do is fund, or even support, the actual work required to win elections under the rules as they exist.
I know this because I’m doing that work right now.
And I know it because I watched Democrats push one of their strongest rural candidates out of politics.
